Diary of an Entrepreneur: Ch. 1

Chapter 1: Lighting The Fire

I’m going to take a shot in the dark and say that for most entrepreneurs IT starts with a passion. At least that’s how I got started. I don’t think it matters WHAT you’re passionate about, as long as you’re passionate about something. Now, if you’ve somehow managed to come across this diary entry (shame on you for invading someone else’s privacy) then you’re probably well aware that my passion is creating and sharing healthy vegan food. BUT, this isn’t that. Well, it IS that, but it’s more than that! “Amber! What the hell are you rambling on about!?” You ask in a huff. Ok ok no need to get hasty! I’ll explain.

Over the past 2 years, I have been on quite the little adventure with Myfitlittlefoodie. But, the adventure has really only just begun. And that my friend, is why I’m here today scribbling down all of my deepest darkest secrets (well, not quite). The purpose of this diary/journal/blank white space filled with words, is to share with you, my journey as an entrepreneur! Here, I’ll be talking about the ups, downs, side steps, headstands (you get the point) of Myfitlittlefoodie, as a “behind the scenes” segment. I’ll be the first to admit that it is tremendously easy to get caught up in the end goal of a project. So much so that we forget to appreciate the journey. And let’s be real, that’s where all the fun takes place! So, I’m going to do my best to make this a shared experience. I get the chance to learn and grow through self reflection, sharing with anyone who is willing to listen. And YOU get to hopefully know me and Myfitlittlefoodie a little better, as well as be moderately entertained and hey, maybe even learn a thing or two!

So like all your classic fairy tales, let’s start at the beginning. For argument sake, I’m 20ish and living in a student house. I know that I like food, being healthy, and spending way too much time scrolling through Instagram drooling over other people’s creations. Of course, a little bit of intrigue, curiosity, and boredom leads to my roommate and I each creating our own food based Instagram pages. What fun! I could now make food, and post it online for the world to see. What a joy. Seriously guys, I continued doing this for over a year simply because I LIKED TO DO IT! What an amazing concept.

As time went on, Myfitlittlefoodie slowly but surely became my little child, if you will. Realizing how much I loved sharing my passion, I decided that it only made sense that I use this as a way to make some extra cash. Because honestly, how cool would that be. If I could make money, doing something I enjoyed. Notably at the time, there seemed to be only a handful of vegan cookbooks on the market. And that’s when I decided, that Myfitlittlefoodie would be the next best seller. Well, let’s not get carried away... I mostly just wanted to produce a cookbook, and sell a copy or two. Naturally, my inspiration for this new project caused me to dive head first into “creative mode.” I spent many days creating recipes, taking pictures, resizing images, and showing my ever supportive (and possibly uninterested) friends my hard work. This is what I would like to think, dreaming looks like. At the time, all I really had was an idea, motivation, and inspiration. Now don’t get me wrong, those are all extremely important ingredients in building dreams. BUT that alone won’t get you very far. What I was missing, was insight. I needed to seek leadership, advice, and knowledge. I needed to be taught! I needed to become a student again. I just didn’t know it yet.
